A major step forward for Slough Aspire has begun with the employment of a full time manager. To be based at the Aspire Centre, Fiona Jones joins with a wealth of experience from working with the unemployed via job clubs, teaching abroad in a number of cultures and working as part of a training delivery team in London for REED In Partnership.
Fiona has most recently been working for the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead where she held the role of Employment and Training Advisor for Grow Our Own. The role which she occupied for 3 years covered local community engagement, increasing participation in pre-employment activities, hosting events, working with local business and creating a work experience programme which was then promoted and adapted to other local businesses to meet their own needs.
Whilst the Aspire centre will be Fiona’s base upon opening, her role will be to oversee and help manage all Aspire activity from Business to Schools and Community.
Fiona says “It’s exciting to get started as Aspire Manager and I’m looking forward to working with all the Aspire partners to put improved skills development and community business engagement in Slough at the top of everyone’s agenda.”
Neil Peters, Commercial Director for East Berkshire College who are funding Fiona’s appointment said “we are absolutely delighted we have Fiona on board. She comes with real experience in the areas Aspire is engaged with. She is proactive, commercial, and socially aware and has a real focus on welfare and improving the community through education, training, employment and how this will help populate Slough’s business world of the future”.
