2.30 Jersey Stakes (Class 1) (Group 3). 7f
Ivawood 6/4 carries a weight penalty as a result of finishing 3rd in the English and Irish Guineas. However, Ivawood will possibly respond well to this drop in distance and Richard Hannon who trains strongly favours Ivawood for the Jersey. Bossy Guest 7/1 and Fadhayyil 8/1 may give Ivawood most to do but it may do well to look out for stablemate Tupi 12/1 who may end up in the frame and provide a nice each way bet at good odds.
Main bet: IVAWOOD 6/4 TO WIN. No: 1 on the racecard.
3.05 Queen Mary Stakes (Class 1) (Group 2) (Fillies) 5f
Wesley Ward has talked up big time both Aapulco 5/1 and Bruised Orange 8/1 to be ridden by Frankie Dettori but despite his bravado even he must realise he’s up against a host of unbeaten fillies in this race. For example William Haggas’s Besharah 11/2 a 5f winner at both here at Ascot as well as Windsor. Kassia 14/1 is worthy of consideration as just beaten by Besharah and at 14/1 could provide a nice each way bet. Cry Me A River is another 14/1 shot which may well appear out of the blue according to Tommy Stack but personally I really can’t see that happening on no wins or places so far, but you never know! Easton Angel 5/1on the other hand has won twice from two starts each time ridden by Paul Mulrennan who also rides him today.
Main bet: EASTON ANGEL 5/1 TO WIN No: 10 on the racecard.
3.40 Duke of Cambridge Stakes (Class 1) (Group 2) (fillies & Mares) 1m straight.
Integral Evens, last years convincing winner, will almost certainly go off favourite especially having notched up two Group 1 win in the Sun Chariot at Newmarket in October. The Group 1 Dubai Turf in March showed up well for Euro Charline 5/1 ridden by Frankie Dettori today and Cladocera 8/1 against strong male opposition and could augur well for today. Chadocera scooped good Group 2 wins at Meydan so should be well in the frame for consideration in the Duke of Cambridge today. Rizeena 8/1 should also put up a good show with 10 places from 14 starts from which resulted 5 wins.
Main bet INTEGRAL Evens TO WIN No: 1 on the racecard.
4.20 Prince of Wales’s Stakes (Class 1) (Group 1). 1m 2f
Oh what a pity that US California Chrome has had to be withdrawn due to a foot abcess having been detected at his Newmarket stable. This leaves the field open for Triple Australian Group 1 winner Criterion 12/1 and 6 yr old Japanese horse Spielberg 7/1 to show their true colours. Spielberg is a Gp 1 winner on firm ground over 1m2fl. Free Eagle 3/1 oozes class but has not run this year and could either be vulnerable or benefit from the rest whereas Spielberg is tried and tested. Ectot 5/1 who impressed at the Prix Niel has always bee headstrong but is subject to improvement and will certainly find the distance no problem. Sir Michael Stout trained Cannock Chase 7/1 is a 4yr old improver who won at the Royal meeting last year and if anybody can get a horse to perform its Sir Michael.
SPIELBERG 10/1 each way No: 7 on the racecard.
5.00 Royal Hunt Cup (Heritage Handicap) (Class 2) 1m straight.
This is a stampede of 30 runners. Ayaar 10/1 ridden by Frankie Dettori is really the pick of the race having won the Newbury race with plenty to spare and could provide him with his 50th Royal Ascot winner. Consistent runner Chil The Kite 16/1 may well be in the frame. Field of Dreams 20/1 is off on a higher mark following a win at Doncaster, but the stable say they have him in the best form he’s ever been in – if not better. Spark Plug 11/1 came second in the Newbury and is considered very highly for this race so could spring a surprise at good odds.
Main bet: AYAAR 10/1 each way No: 18 on the racecard and Spark Plug 11/1 each way No: 6 on the racecard.
5.35 Sandringham Rated Stakes (Class 1) (Handicap) (Listed Race) (3yr olds) 1m straight
17 runners thunder to post. Saeed Bin Suroor’s filly Always Smile 5/2 is unbeaten and is fancied despite having to carry an addition 11lb weight for winning at Doncaster. Touchline 7/1 with Jamie Spencer aboard cook coax further improvement and Realtra 18/1 may make the frame.
Main bet: ALWAYS SMITH 5/2 TO WIN No: 3 on the racecard but with TOUCHLINE 7/1 each way No: 12 on the racecard.
