The owner of a thriving country estate in Berkshire will speak out about the future of corporate entertainment in the UK at an open day this month.
Joshua Dugdale of the Wasing Estate, in Aldermaston, believes the events industry is undergoing a major transformation and will showcase a number of unique immersive experiences including drumming sessions and wellness in the workplace seminars at the open day at the exclusive use venue on 23rd June.
“The future of networking is no longer simply a question of people meeting each other, and making connections, it is the environment within which they meet; it is the state of mind of the participant which can generate thoughts, ideas, connections which will maximise their experiences and meld them to the other person. To do that events are not simply about meeting each other…it is what you do, how you do it, and the mood music that goes with it,” says Joshua who will be joined by Jo Vidler, the founder and Creative Director of Wilderness Festival and the forerunner of the new events movement.
The open day aimed at businesses looking for unique events will also celebrate the opening of three 18th century Old Estate Rooms that have been sensitively restored. The new rooms, which bring the total on the estate to 26, are part of a £3 million restoration project of the venue over the last seven years.
The Grade II listed buildings include The Dovecote – a circular suite featuring the original brick floor and wooden ladder used for cleaning out the nests; The Smithy with its striking old forge fireplace, wooden beams and window sills; and The Granary where wooden steps lead up to a fairy tale suite which sits proudly on its saddle stones.
Joshua, who heads up the family estate and has project managed the work, adds: “The open day is a celebration of the huge conservation project undertaken at Wasing since 2008. These buildings, whilst beautiful, had no use, needing expensive repairs and we have guaranteed them for generations to come.”
The open day will welcome members of the media exclusively from 11am, the day’s activities will start at noon and include social eating with Peter Mandeno’s Wok +Wine, a Tea Party in the estate’s Secret Walled Garden as well as a chance to drum with the Vibe Navigator, Tom Morley, and attend a unique transformational breathing workshop. Other activities on the day will include: archery, bush craft, mask making, treasure hunt, orienteering, Segway, cricket, stalking, big top trapeze and clowning.
