At this time of year there is nothing better for me to begin the festive spirit than a trip down to Winchester Christmas Market.
(Ed: Picture of my mum at German Christmas market)
A walk around the grounds of this historic grade 1 listed building with its many tightly situated wooden sheds, a hot-dog in one hand and cup of mulled wine in the other just seems right to start the holiday.
However, we business continuity specialists never rest and I find myself thinking of how well the cathedral manages its risks. The retail stalls are mainly in the middle and closest to the cathedral, whilst gas braziers cooking hot food are segregated well to one side. The market traders continue without the risk of fire or bad weather. There are clear exits at either end, enabling safe egress in the event of an incident. People are safe and everyone enjoys themselves.
Wishing a happy and safe Christmas to all.
