Berkshire East Opthalmology Service Redesign Event
East Berkshire Clinical Commissioning Group (“EBCCG”) invites expressions of interest (EOI) from suitably qualified and experienced providers who provide ophthalmology services to attend an Engagement Workshop Event. The aim of the event is to work with potential bidders and stakeholders to understand the opportunities available to expand our community based provision where clinically appropriate and design a new model of integrated ophthalmic services in east Berkshire (covering Slough, Windsor, Ascot, Maidenhead and Bracknell) and support the delivery of a systems business case.

Opthalmology Context
At Berkshire East, we have recently commissioned a pilot triage for all Opthalmology services. The triage service receives all referrals from local optometrists and GPs. Referrals are triaged, returning any that are incomplete, and directing activity to the appropriate service. We currently have 2 secondary care providers and 2 community care providers.
The community care providers currently provide the following:
• Diagnosis/exclusion of cataract to exclude other pathology and determine if surgery if required (1 attendance)
• Chronic ocular surface discomfort (1 to 2 attendances)
o Dry eye chronic conjunctivitis & blepharitis
• Retinal diagnosis/monitoring
o Dry macular degeneration (1 attendance), Nevi (1 attendance per year) & Other retinal lesions (1 attendance per year)
• Floaters (1 or 2 attendances)
• Glaucoma – clarifying the diagnosis Identify false positives of raised intraocular pressure.
